It all started last night when i got home from dancing. And i thought, i should make Kelsey her cake tonight! i wondered if i had time, as i figured it was going to take a little longer than just any ordinary cake. But i was not concerned about time, i had all night! It began with the first trial layers. i made the first batch of sponge cake, beat beat beat crack eggs fold flour et cetera. i split it, coloured one half green and the other half red, put them both in the oven, waited for them to cook. They looked good and edible, so i got to work on the next part after washing the bowls, trays, beaters and such.
i made another batch, this time doubling the mixture. When the mixture was made i put some in a bowl, coloured it blue, poured it in the tray, put it in the oven. Cleaned the bowl and the knife. Put more mixture in the bowl, coloured it yellow, put it in the tray, put it in the oven.
The Yellow Mix! |
Started cleaning the dishes. Took the blue cake out. Waited for it to cool. Took yellow cake out. Put blue cake on a plate. Waited for yellow cake to cool. Washed first tin. Put purple cake in the oven. Washed bowl and knife. Put last of the mixture in the bowl, coloured it orange. Put yellow cake on a plate. Washed second tin. Put orange mixture into the oven. Cleaned dishes.

The Purple Cake! |
Finally the cakes had cooled enough to assemble them. i cut the outsides of the cake off so you could see the colour clearly.
Rings! |
i got the main plate out and put the first coloured cake on. Which one would i select..? After much debate i decided on the RED cake. Then it was whipped cream. i layered a small amount on the red cake, but then promptly ran out. Well damn. Then it was the second layer of cake: PURPLE! On it goes. Then a layer of jam. Then the third cake layer of ORANGE. It started to look a little like a burger.
A layer of jam then a layer of BLUE cake. More jam, more cake - YELLOW. That was the main cake part finished, as the green layer actually was sort of only a half cake as i didn't exactly split the mixture evenly.
Then for the icing! Red, i decided. So i made the icing and coloured it red, then spread it [with difficulty] over the cake. i had all the excess cake from the outside rings, so i used that to decorate it.
IT WAS BEAUTIFUL.
and now my computer is being EVIL and not letting me put any more pictures up. Which makes me sad because it was really a very beautiful cake.

This morning i got up early so i could go and give Kels the cake. So i walked the fifteen minutes with this huge cake in my hands, i'm sure it must've looked a sight, and arrived at her house. i walked into the kitchen, put the cake down, then let Kelsey see it. And thank goodness i got the response i wanted, because i spent sooo many hours slaving over this cake and it might have broken my heart if she wasn't excited about it. But she was! She was very excited! Which was exciting!
We sat and admired it for a while before putting the knife in so we could cut some pieces to take away with us.
My gosh, the inside looked absolutely gorgeous.
Needless to say, i was forgiven for the cake being almost six months late.
even thinking about that cake makes me happy :)
